In 2020, the co-founders of GoSave had a brilliant idea: the Digital Piggy Bank. Recognizing the trend towards a cashless society and the desire of modern parents to teach their children financial literacy from an early age, the founders developed smart piggy banks with an intuitive touch screen and an iOS and Android application for parents. They invited me to reinvent the traditional piggy bank experience and bring the piggy bank's interface and Parent app to life.
How might we transition traditional Piggy bank savings into digital era?
Create an app that helps parents educate their kids on finance and savings.

Major Insights
Through numerous parent interviews, we found traditional piggy banks outdated. Parents today prioritize their kids' financial education, eager to start lessons early. Our exploration uncovered key financial concepts parents wish to impart: goal-setting, reward for effort, and regular saving habits. They seek to foster good financial management in their children early for lifelong benefits.
Saving towards a goal
During the research, I found that the majority of parents would like to teach their kids to save toward a goal. Based on this finding, I have created an easy way to set a savings goal from the parent app. Parents can set one or multiple goals and allow their kids to choose which goal they want to save towards.
Getting rewards for work done
Many parents wanted to teach their children the importance of saving money and setting goals and the value of earning it. Hence, we introduced chores. Parents can send a task to the Piggy Bank with the chores feature, setting a reward amount and providing instructions. Once the child completes the task, they can mark it as done, receive the reward, and decide how to save it.
Recurring transactions
In addition to rewarding children for jobs well done, we introduced the transactions feature to cater to parents who wish to provide allowances and rewards separate from chores. This allows parents to set up both recurring transactions and one-time allowances.
Visual language
When working on GoSave's Parrens app, I followed the brand's existing look and feel. I did decide to use less of the usual purple color. Why? To make the app interface clean and simple. I wanted to be sure parents could use it without any fuss. Like always, I made a basic UI kit and a style guide. This helps me, and anyone else working on the design, keep everything consistent. It speeds up the process from the initial sketch to the finished design. In a nutshell, my main goal was to create a look for the app that's easy to use and keeps in line with GoSave's aim to provide user-friendly money solutions.
Evaluation and reflection
GoSave has been one of the most captivating projects I've been involved with. We set clear objectives for our MVP, addressing both key customer needs and business aspirations. We engaged with users to assess their experience from the outset, ensuring a genuinely user-centric development approach.
Midway through the development, the startup was acquired, precluding my continued involvement. Nevertheless, I am happy about what we accomplished and the experience the project brought for me.
